What's in a Level Designer?
What constitutes a good level designer? I would mix a nurse’s holistic overview, an athlete’s mental tenacity, and a musician’s joy of creation and collaboration.

I strive to work with creative people, believing firmly in greatness as an emergence of teamwork, and I’m now seeking internship from September to April.
Let’s make something fantastic!

Background
As a Level Design Graduate-to-be of the Game Assembly, I am excited about beginning my career in the gaming industry.

When I quit my job as a paedeatric nurse to pursue my childhood dream of making games, I found that the skills I'd acquired across my many endeavors suited the level designer's role like a glove. I consider my most valuable skills being prioritation and categorization of tasks, high levels of openness to new ideas, conscientiousness of execution, and warm agreeableness in discussion.

My general philosophy of level design is presenting players with experiences that empower them through their own acts. I draw from varied sources of inspiration, cheif among them human psychology, music and historical trivia that spark the imagination. It is about communicating concepts on a digestible level, preferably without the player realizing their being led on by the designer. The communication of level design also factors in how other co-developers understand the vision, and so I value clear presentation within the team aswell.

I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how I can contribute as a holistic level designer.
Quick-fire Round
-
My favorite games. I was raised on Nintendo, and love sidescrollers and 3rd person adventures, but Age of Empires II has left an interest for strategy games in me as well! More recently, I've enjoyed Dredge, It Takes Two, and the reboots of God of War and Doom.
-
Tabletop enthusiast. I'm a forever DM for D&D and loving it. Currently preparing for running one-shot anthologies using the 2024 rules. In addition, I always say yes to boardgames!
-
Pop Cover Tubaist. I play the tuba in a cover band called Brass Benders, check us out on spotify!
-
One Pool Guy. I regularly go swimming, but no longer competing on a national level. I pace a few week, and regularly go Ice Bathing as well. Activity stimulates the curious mind!
